Top Tips for Playing Poker Online
Posted at 01/31/2012 02 AM in General Discussions by The Greedy Gecko.
If you love playing poker, but you're yet to experience playing online, then you should be aware that there are a few differences in the techniques which you will need to use. With this in mind, here are a a selection of top tips to help perfect your online poker playing technique.

Firstly, as a new online player, it is a good idea to start out by playing smaller, low-limit games first. Even if you are an experienced casino player, it is advisable to let yourself get used to the online format. Some sites, such as Partypoker , will even allow you to play using 'play money' - giving you the opportunity to become confident in using their software, without the risk of using your own funds to place bets in a game. Avoid taking big risks whilst you are still mastering the concept of online playing, and stick to games which present little risk initially.

When you do start playing for real, then it is important to remember that you are still betting your personal funds - even though payments are made online. If you are used to handing over cash in a casino, then it can be easy to get carried away in betting online, where funds can be played instantly with just a few clicks. Even so, it is important to remember not to bet any amount which you can't afford to loose, and avoid chasing cards to try and 'win back' your losses.

You will also need to learn to read online poker bluffing techniques. Bluffing in online poker is significantly different to bluffing in casino games, but it is still an important part of the game. Look out for players who always attempt to bluff, or those who will always fold unless they've got an exceptionally string hand. You might not be able to read their faces, but you'll soon be able to develop an idea of who might be bluffing and when.
