Tips to win while playing poker
Posted at 08/05/2008 02 AM in General Discussions by Sack.
Many believe that Poker is a game of luck and there is no place for skills and ability at this popular game card game. However, it has been proved that poker is not only about playing with intent and ability, but there is great amount of intelligence and skill that goes along with it.

• There are several things that you need to know if you want to win at poker. First and foremost among them is learning the poker jargon. Do not start playing unless you know the difference between a big blind and a little blind.

• Next is to pick up the cues for the game. You should know when to raise the stakes and when to fold your hand. There can be situations when you should know when to quit for the night.

• You should also know all the rules of the game and the variants of the game. For instance, there are several different variations of the poker game more than for any other card game.

• You should understand the other players and their motivations. Make note of the moves that they are making and the facial expression and the like. The point is to get into their psyche and anticipate the next move from them. Poker is as much of a psychological game as any other and it pays to get the moves of the other players as much as possible.

• The other side to this is to make sure that you do not give your self away by means of your expressions and gestures. As they say, keep a poker face. This means that you should not let your emotions show and instead have a repertoire of your own that you can use to your advantage. You should not also let the other players know that you have a weak or a strong hand. Do not give the impression that you are holding on a strong hand and try to convey that you have a weak hand.

• Next is the ability to keep track of the odds and the “cash in the pot”. This would ensure that you do not fold up for lack of funds and you are always aware of the quotient that you must be hold as a ratio of the cash in the pot. The most important thing is to play smart. You should learn from your mistakes and not repeat them the next time you play. As the cliché goes, practice makes one perfect. And there is no point in following blind superstitions even if they bring a comfort level to your game.

• You have to enjoy playing poker. That is the only way that can ensure success at poker. For many people, playing poker is for fun and relaxation. In that case, pick a table with low stakes and ensure that you play there for the fun part of it. In other cases, just take a break and stroll round the table when you are not winning. Thus, you can play to win and also have fun at the same time. Poker is as much a game of patience as well. So, it is important for you to ride out the troughs and hit the peaks more often.

• Also, you should remain vigilant throughout the game and not let your concentration waver. Keep a steady head and also a head into the game. Take note of what’s happening around you. Keep a check on your emotions as well. Do not let your emotions take you away from the fact that you need to keep a balanced head and also a focused intent to play.
