The second week of a scheduled seven week action at the WSOP concluded on Sunday 17th June, 2007 at the Rio. The highlight of the father’s day action at the World Series of Poker was the record-extending win by one of the greatest players alive, Phil Hellmuth. The juggernaut seems to be rolling strong and steady with his 60th career cash win. The weekend also saw the awarding of two more champion bracelets. People kept filing in and the satellite and evening tourneys have witnessed record capacity crowds for the second week running.
Popularly referred to as the ‘Poker Brat’, Phil Hellmuth’s posted his 60th career cash win on Day One of Event #28, $3,000 No Limit Hold 'Em. He was one of the 827 entrants for the prize pool of $2,282,520 and a first place worth $527,829. He will start Day Two in the fourth place. He has now reinstated himself as the most potential title winner as he is all set for his next WSOP title.
There were several big names that kick-started their tourney in Event #28. Among them were Erik Seidel, Andy Black, Jamie Gold, Joe Awada, Erick Lindgren, Minh Ly, Vanessa Rousso, Bill Chen, Kristy Gazes, Johnny Chan, Greg Raymer, John Gale, Andy Bloch, and Jennifer Harman.
There were also quite a few big-timers that were routed early in the action like J. Liu, John 'Johnny World' Hennigan, Harman, Tony G, Men 'The Master' Nguyen, Gale, Shannon Elizabeth and Ly. The battle of the titans saw John Phan and Steven Dannenmann competing intensely at one table while Phil Gordon and Jamie Gold battled in another. In addition to these, there were other thrilling slugfests at other tables with Brandi Hawbaker, Jeff Madsen, Ben Roberts, and Doug Lee at one and Steven Paul-Ambrose, T.J. Cloutier, Dan Alspach, Alex Jacob, and Victor Ramdin at another, battling it out.
Amongst the 81 Day One survivors at the event were prominent names like Greg 'FBT' Mueller, Dannenmann, Taylor Caby, Ng, Nick Frangos, MacDonald, Schmiech, Tony Cousineau, Thomas Wahlroos and Laak.
