Poker is very easily accessible because you can play online but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is completely safe. In general it depends on where you are playing because not all online poker rooms follow the rules.

Some companies steal money from players or take an extended time to send them their winnings. Other have the software setup to launch viruses when they are downloaded.

3. Check the credibility of the website by contacting players to make sure they get paid promptly and things of that nature.

4. Read online poker reviews, their are many websites, including this one that offer reviews of the many poker rooms on the internet.

If you are not comfortable playing in poker rooms you are unfamilar with, stick with some of the most well known poker rooms like Party Poker and Full Tilt Poker. It will give you one less thing to think about while you are playing.
