Overview -

Paradise Poker is one of the original online poker sites, although they found themselves being overtaken by newer sites. However, that all changed when they again came to the fore with their Million Dollar Freeroll promotion. This has pushed their popularity right back up to near the top. They are a very professional site with massive traffic and a great tournament schedule. However, their software isnít the best and players tend to be tougher than most sites.

Money - 8/10

Paradise Poker are currently well-known for their Million Dollar Freeroll promotion. Two of these events have already been completed, but there are likely to be more due to their success. Basically, you can gain entrance through joining the site, and playing in heats. There are good prizes for these tournaments, and once the final ten have been reached they play against each other for the $1 million aboard a cruise ship. Their other promotions rotate, and you will need to check the site for current details. Their payout system is excellent and you can usually get withdrawals within a day. Most deposit methods are accepted, with a minimum deposit of $20.

Interface and Customer Service - 9/10

The Paradise Poker software has some interesting features, but it is let down by the game speed. Games run at only 35 to 40 hands per hour, which means you need to have multiple tables open if you want to stop getting bored. However, the graphics are pretty good and the software has great features. These include a play-for-fun Blackjack table, and hands that set on fire randomly when winning a showdown. You can also buy snacks and cocktails from the virtual snack bar. Although the game speed is slow, you can keep yourself amused with these little features in between hands. Email support is quick at Paradise, but it surprising that such a large site doesnít have telephone or live chat support. However, you should be able to get your answer quite quickly via email.

Player Difficulty and Frequency - 8/10

Paradise Poker is one of the oldest sites around, and so it has a lot more experienced players than the newer sites. The flop percentages are low at around 25-35%, and if you are inexperienced this site might be hard for you to play at. However, if you do well in tight game and hate playing wild players, then this site is for you. Although traffic started to get worse a while back, the recent promotions have pushed figures right back up. There are plenty of ring games to be found, and the tournament traffic is very good indeed. If you are a serious player then you will find some good high-level play, as the large buy-in events are popular.

Tournaments - 9/10

The tournament traffic at Paradise Poker is great, and there are lots of tournaments to choose from. However, smaller bankrolls may find it harder, with buy-ins usually around $15-30. There are 4 or 5 tournaments an hour during busy times, and they have some good guaranteed events. There is a $100,000 guaranteed event every Sunday, and a $50,000 tournament every night that has a really low buy-in of $30. The tournaments at Paradise are more like real cardroom games, and definitely favour the skilful players. There is of course the Million Dollar Freeroll to contend with as well.

Paradise Poker is a site I used to play at quite some time back. I recently visited it again and was pleasantly surprised to find that it has reinvented itself to stay competitive. Its Million Dollar Free Roll promotion has made it one of the most popular sites on the Internet. Registration on the site gives you basic entry but you have to play and win the heats. The ten finalists play for the $1 million prize on a cruise. To my dismay I have not yet reached the finals, but the intermediate prizes have made the effort worthwhile. The graphics are excellent but I would not mind a little less snazzy graphics and a little more speed. Other than this I have no complaints. The traffic is great. Withdrawals usually take a day and most of the common deposit methods are accepted. The e-mail support is quick and efficient. The tournaments are numerous and they offer great prizes. Paradise Poker is a bit partial to experienced players like me. Tournaments have higher buy-ins and higher-level stakes are preferred. Most of the traffic consists of experienced players. This is what I like because loose players spoil the fun.
