|Hollywood Poker Room Review Review | Review Guide
Hollywood Poker as a network has been around in various guises since the beginning of online poker, but the site itself is fairly new. Endorsed by James Woods, Vince Van Patten and other celebrities, the site is certainly ‘Hollywood’. It is a very impressive site overall, with excellent promotions and decent software. Although the site is relatively new, the established network means that play is tight with a large number of veteran players. However, this should not put you off as the player and tournament traffic is excellent, making for a very good all-round poker room.
Money - 9/10
Hollywood Poker has been using large promotions to attract new players, and it seems to be paying off. One good feature about their deposit bonuses is the options available. If you play at low stakes then a 100% bonus up to $50 is a good option, with few raked hands needed to earn the money. However, there are also 100% bonuses up to $75 and $100 respectively, with more raked hands needed for each. If you are a high stakes player, there is even a massive 500% bonus up to $1000. If you like playing the big money, then this is the best bonus you can get anywhere. As well as these bonus options there are promotions for free tickets to celebrity events as well as Royal Flush jackpots and $10,000 freerolls for regular players.
Payouts are solid, with turnover time being about 24-36 hours.
Interface and Customer Service - 9/10
The software at Hollywood Poker is some of the sharpest around, with a beautiful deep red colour scheme. The interface runs quickly, and there are good statistics to look at whilst playing. There is also a great no-download version which gives MAC users the chance to play. The lobby layout is simple and you can find a table you want quickly, although annoyingly you cannot see the table statistics until you click on it. However, other nice features like comic book bubbles that announce the action make up this. Overall, this is an excellent software package with very good features.
The customer service team is very helpful, and the telephone support is really very good. There is also email support with quick response times if you don’t want to use the phone.
Player Difficulty and Frequency - 8/10
Hollywood Poker may be a new site, but being on an old network means there are a lot of tight players around. The flop percentages are quite low at around 40%, and playing tight is probably a good option to separate the experienced players from the weaker ones. Overall, the gameplay is a nice combination of new players and tighter experienced players.
The network that Hollywood Poker uses has been around for ages, and this is reflected in the massive traffic for both games and tournaments. There are full tables at most times of the day or night if you want to play, even up to the higher stakes.
Tournaments - 8/10
The tournament schedule at Hollywood Poker is very good, and they have loads of tournaments each day at various buy-in amounts. One of the best low-level events is a $1 buy-in event that has a first prize of over $1,000. For the more serious players there are plenty of guaranteed and high buy-in events each week. There is also a weekly Michael Woods Celebrity tournament where you get the chance to knock out designated celebrities for a bounty. There are also a lot of WPT satellites and guaranteed events up to $50,000. All of this combined with high traffic makes for some great tournament play.
|I am a sucker for Hollywood Westerns with tough guys playing tough poker and this is the reason that I began to frequent Hollywood Poker. But it got me hooked because of what it has on offer. Hollywood Poker is one of the few sites that caters to both low rollers and high rollers. I fancy the 500% bonus up to $1,000, which I have found the best available online. I also go for the tickets to celebrity events and Royal Flush jackpots that are offered as bonus options. The tournaments are also designed to suit all pockets, which is great. On days that I have a depleted account I go for a $1 buy-in event has a prize of $1,000. But when I have had a winning streak and my balance is fat I go for the higher buy-in events that give larger prizes going up to $50,000. Fast paced games, large crowds and celebrity players contribute to the Hollywood experience.|
